Behind The Scenes: PSA Fashion Show 2011

(Please wait for slide show to begin)

Is it really Wednesday already?! We apologize for the prolongation of this post, but we needed the couple of days off to recover from the fashion high we had over the weekend. There truthfully is such a thing as fashion show hangovers. With that said we are sad, but happy to announce the 17th annual PSA Fashion show is officially written in U of M history. It seems just a few days ago we were jostling models around and bathing in personal body odor from the hard work put into this show - oh wait, it was only a few days ago. Our Saturday in a nutshell consisted of prepping for the show 4 hours early, changing personal outfits 45 times, eating 8 times prior to and during the show, styling models, losing and finding accessories, losing and finding shoes, losing and finding our sanity, and of course ending the night with a proudly produced fashion event!
We'd like to thank a handful of people for making this night a successful one. This is synonmous to one of those moments where you're watching the Academy awards and you're annoyed that your favorite actress just pulled out a list of names to read before his/her acceptance speech because you just know it's going to take forever - yup this is one of those!

A very special thanks to PSA's board for the help and recognition they gave the Tattertales. Hard work doesn't come unnoticed and they made sure of that. We are extremely gratified to have been given the opportunity of working with a humbled group of passionate students that paved the way for this year's successful outcome.
Thanks to all the retailors and designers that participated: American Apparel, Cache, Lucky Brand, DSW, Pieter Sibal, Marlena Thao, D.A.V Brandz, 3 Stars & Sun, Il Vostro, Nomala Xiong, Carol Lee.
Big ups to Tattertales very own (Winnie), for getting Nordstrom (the first department store EVER) to sponsor PSA!
And also to our great friend Moni Ouk who came to give us a hand and also keeping us on track backstage at the show - we owe you one!

Thanks to all the make up artists and hair stylists. You guys did an amazing job! And to all the volunteers that did the peasant work knowing it was for a great cause :)  And a very special thank you to our friends at OMG Agency for putting a last minute film crew together to shoot the show!

And to anyone and everyone that participated - be proud of yourselves. You can officially hold your heads up high knowing you put together an outstanding event.

Tattered Tips

We are extremely excited and flattered to announce we got our first e-mail from a reader seeking out fashion advice! We thought this to be a great opportunity to connect with our audience personally by turning the request and response into a post! We originally wanted to retort in the form of a vlog, but it's been an extremely busy and tough week for us to meet up as we are separately preparing for tomorrow's big day (which should be on all your calenders! The 17th annual PSA Fashion Show!) We still wanted to reach out to our readers though with a quick response. Here's the e-mail we received:

Hi, I just tumbled onto your blog!
I really like the style you guys are presenting!
I had a quick question.
Do you know what's the best kind of style a person with short torso and long legs should wear?
I can't pull off the tucked in shirt with pants.
any suggestions?

-Thanks!

Michelle.

First and foremost - thanks for trusting us! Like I stated earlier, we are humbly flattered. Here are some tips we thought of for you! Most of them are pretty basic, but we figured we didn't want to go into too much detail with advice as we left room open for you to be creative and improvise. Afterall, fashion is 10% what you buy and 89% what you make of it (and 1% of what Oliva Palermo is wearing at all times)!

Tips for short torso/long legs
- Use longer shirts and lower waistlines to give the impression of a longer torso.  Low rise jeans were made for you!
- Wide belts will make your waist look shorter.  If you want to do a belt, do it around your hips instead of your waist.  And make sure they are narrow belts.
- Avoid wearing high waist pants.  They'll just make your legs look longer and your torso shorter.
- An empire waist with a flowy fabric is great for you because it'll skim over your natural waist.
- Vertical striped shirts make torsos look longer.
- Accessorize, it draws attention away from your proportions. Longer necklaces stretch out your torso.
- A V-Neck that draws the eye in a vertical line will elongate the torso.  Be careful with short sleeves, as they can add bulk to your shoulders and visually shorten your body by drawing the eye up and out.

We hounded Forever 21's website to find things that we felt would look great on your body type. These, of course, are just examples but we wanted to use a reference that was affordable yet still fashionable. And by no means are we implying that you can't afford to shop at Neiman's or anything, we're just incorporating a store that is essential to our bargain buys!

Here are some silhouettes and styles to give you an idea of how you can dress your body shape:

Long Necklaces and accessories will help elongate you

We hope this helps, Michelle :)  We dream about the days we have the problem of having long legs....If all fails - wear a bikini everyday because those were also made for your body type (and it's almost summer anyway so most people won't judge you)!

Thank you again for the continous follow and support you all have given us.  We are constantly estatic to service a community of avid readers.  Stay tuned for the big post coming up following the show!  Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Tattered Tuesday

The girls of the Tatter Tales made our weekly shopping trip together to the Mall of America to see what gems we could find to share with our readers for this post.  Our affection to shop has been germinating at the thought of Spring and the PSA Fashion Show coming up this Saturday, so of course we had to satisfy the hunger.  You would think with our habitual shopping habits we’d have troubles finding new things but where there’s a mall, there’s a way!   Here’s the outcome of our Tattered Tuesday:

Amy scored with these B-E-A-U-tiful Jeffrey Campbell Mary Lou wedges for only $39 from Nordstrom Rack!  That's over $100 off the original price!  If these don't take your breath away - it's probably because you're already passed out from overwhelming amity you've already formed for these shoes.  She plans to coordinate her outfits every day for the rest of the summer (and possibly pushing into Fall) around these babies.  The last we heard, she was sleeping with them by her side.  You can't blame a girl for loving her shoes :)

Harem trouve pants - Nordstrom $8, F21 Drawstring shorts $10.50, White Cargo Shorts - H&M $12, Printed Button Up - H&M $12

Comfortable, flattering and quality jeans are hard things to come by- especially at a reasonable price so when it happens and at an amazing deal, you should thank the heavens! Winnie landed her hands on a great pair of 7 for all Mankind jeans on sale for $55! These wide flares are a trendy statement for the season and pair perfectly with any chunky heel.

Lastly, we wanted to coordinate the things we bought into an "outfit of the day" for our readers to show how we plan on wearing them this Spring!

That's all for today's posts.  Don't forget to look for us at this Saturday's PSA Fashion Show Event!  And be on the look out for our follow up post covering the show :)

MN Fashion Week!

This week MN Fashion week is in full swing and the Tattertales are ecstatic to announce we have been asked to support the cause by assisting in styling/back stage coordination at the U of M Philippine Student Association (PSA) 17th annual fashion show!  We met with the fashion show coordinator of this year's show Trina Sibal, to assist in picking out outfits for next Saturday's event.  She let us in the know about the cotillion themed "Head Held High" extravaganza.  "This year, I wanted to be in charge of it because I felt like something this prominent to the Philippine Student Association needed a coordinator with great organization skills and I felt like I had that.  I want to take the unnecessary stress away that gets attracted to these fashion shows and replace it with fun and entertainment", she tells us.  And that is exactly what you all can expect ladies and gentlemen!

After 6 long hours of meeting with vendors that ranged from all styles of clothing from American Apparel to Cache - we exhaled the exhaustion from the long, but successful planning day.  Though we noted there is still dress rehearsal and the actual show itself to come!  The show will take place on Saturday, April 16th at the University of Minnesota in the Coffman Great Hall.  That's your official invite, Minnesotans so come one - come all!

'Save the date' as the flyer states!  Come support the ladies of the Tattertales along with the PSA members who are putting in work for this show! Expect an enterprise composed of cultural essence mixed with catwalk entertainment.  As always, the PSA fashion show team will not disappoint!
